Helping local businesses grow

When Johns Hopkins announced the launch of a pilot program to assist well-established local minority- and women-owned businesses to expand their products or services into areas that position them to do more business with the university and other large employers in the region, officials hoped they'd garner interest from 20 or so applicants. Instead, nearly 50 vendors threw their names into the hat.

Homewood Community Partners Initiative

the Homewood Community Partners Initiative (HCPI) grows out of a greater understanding that the health and well-being of Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus is inextricably tied to the physical, social, and economic well being of its surrounding neighborhoods. JHU's response to that link comes from a combination of enlightened self-interest and a moral obligation that dates back to the founding of the university in 1876. Major urban universities, competing for talent, acknowledge that the off-campus experience in many ways rivals in importance a rich and well-established academic tradition.
