LEAD Mentoring Program for Middle Schoolers

LEAD is a project-based after-school program for middle school students, which started a few years ago as an offshoot of Tutorial Project. Volunteers emphasize research-based learning that encourages mentors to not teach, but to guide students hone their skills of project planning, research and public speaking that they may not otherwise have access to. Previously, students built their own prototypes of ecofriendly buildings, research about cultural diversity etc. Also, there are other fun activities offered in collaboration with other student-run programs from the JHU Center for Social Concern. JHU mentors are paired with a Baltimore middle schooler and together the two will work on a project in keeping with the semester's theme.
